Exit Strategy: Navigating the Means of Egress (7)

Overview: This training program is designed to provide inspectors with the knowledge and practical skills necessary to evaluate means of egress systems for code compliance and life-safety effectiveness. The course examines the principles of occupant movement, egress capacity, exit access, exits, exit discharge, travel distance, common path of egress travel, dead-end corridors, and other components that make up a compliant means of egress system. Participants will learn to evaluate egress systems based on occupancy classification, occupant load, building configuration, construction features, and the applicable code requirements. Emphasis is placed on recognizing common deficiencies, determining the potential life-safety impact of those deficiencies, and documenting inspection findings accurately and objectively.
