CF238-05 - Designing for Life Safety: NFPA 101 Equivalencies in 2021
Designing for Life Safety NFPA 101 Equivalencies in 2021 (3)
Overview: Once a building has been approved under NFPA 101 Life Safety Code and a new version of the code is adopted, that building becomes an existing building. Once any changes to an existing building occurs, these changes are covered in Chapter 43 of NFPA 101. Students will learn the requirements of this chapter and strive to maintain or improve the existing level of life safety without requiring all rehabilitation work to comply with the provisions applicable to new construction. The goal of this approach is to encourage the continued use or adaptive reuse of existing buildings. This course explains the level of acceptable code compliance based on Chapter 43.
This course examines how to apply the acceptable code equivalencies to maintain the same level of code compliance.
