Weight Management
Before you get started reviewing your weight-management resources, give a quick look at a few details about eligibility:
- All employees, spouses, adult dependents and retirees enrolled in medical insurance with Partners for Health have access to the Partners for Health programs and resources.
- All state employees have access to the resources available through Working for a Healthier TN, even if they are not enrolled in the health plan.
- State and higher education employees have access to many resources available through Here4TN, including five short-term counseling visits and Calm.

Wellness program
provided by Sharecare
- Nutrition and exercise coaching for personalized support with a trained coach to get to or maintain a healthy weight.
- Eat Right Now is an app-based, weight-management program available for those with a body mass index of 27 or higher to help you get to or maintain a healthy weight. It includes a digital scale and fitness tracker, daily lessons and the opportunity to speak live with a coach. To learn more, go here.
- Unwinding Anxiety is a 30-day program that only takes 10 minutes per day. It includes video lessons, mindfulness exercises, journaling, community support and check-ins. You’ll learn how to switch gears the moment anxiety arises and overcome those anxious feelings.
To get started in any of these programs, go to stateoftn.sharecare.com, select Achieve, and select from the available programs.

Coverage for registered dietitians/nutritional counseling through your health plan
Nutritional counseling with a registered dietitian is covered. To find a provider in your network, log in to your member site with BlueCross BlueShield or Cigna and search for a provider based on your network.
BlueCross BlueShield provides access to nutrition counseling through Teladoc at no additional cost. Log in at bcbst.com/members/tn_state/ and select Talk With a Doctor Now.
Fitness center discounts through your health plan
If you are enrolled in medical insurance with Partners for Health, your medical carrier (BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee or Cigna) offers discounts on fitness center memberships and virtual fitness classes.
Blue Cross Blue Shield of Tennessee
Offers access to fitness centers around the state as well as live and recorded online classes. One-time enrollment fees range from $19 to $28 and monthly membership fees start as low as $19 a month depending upon the program and gym selected. Gym selection and ability to use multiple gyms versus one gym depends upon the fitness discount program. There is no long-term contract, just a three-month initial commitment. - Choose the Fitness Your Way deal or Active & Fit Direct to start your gym membership or online classes
- You can also call 888-242-2060, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. CT.
Cigna
You have access to gym memberships through the Active & Fit Direct network. Pay $81 to enroll, which includes a $25 enrollment fee and $28 current and next month membership fees. After a three-month commitment your membership is month-to-month at $28 per month. Gym membership is limited to the gym selected during enrollment with some gym brands allowing access to any of their gym locations. - Log in to myCigna.com
- Click on Wellness and scroll down to Incentives, Healthy Rewards and Additional Resources
- Click Exercise and scroll down to Health Rewards
- Click gym memberships/start saving and when you check the box, it will take you to the Active & Fit Site
You also have access to digital workouts through Cigna.

Weight loss medications through the pharmacy benefit by CVS Caremark
Certain anti-obesity medications are covered with a prior authorization which may be requested by your provider. Prior authorization helps ensure these medications are used safely and appropriately. Sign in to your Caremark account at info.caremark.com/oe/stateoftn to learn more about the anti-obesity medications covered under your pharmacy benefit.
Bariatric surgery available through your health plan
- Carrum Health offers Centers of Excellence for bariatric surgery. For preferred provider organization members, it is available at no cost. Consumer-driven Health Plan members only need to meet their deductible. Go to the Carrum Health landing page here for more information.
- Bariatric surgery means surgical procedures for the treatment of morbid obesity as determined to be medically necessary by BlueCross BlueShield or Cigna.
- BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee offers Centers of Excellence for bariatric surgery. To find a Blue Distinction provider in your network, call BlueCross at 800-558-6213 or visit bcbs.com/blue-distinction-center/facility.
All bariatric surgeries require prior authorization. Your provider should request authorization prior to delivering services.

Through Working for a Healthier Tennessee, state employees can access activities and challenges, virtual events, resources, success stories and much more.

Emotional Wellbeing Solutions provided by Optum Behavioral Health
The Here4TN program offers 24/7 emotional support:
- Short-term counseling includes five visits, per problem, per year at no cost to you. Preauthorization is required to use your counseling visits. Call 855-437-3486 or go to Here4TN.com to obtain preauthorization.
- Long-term counseling is available through your behavioral health benefits, if needed.
- Virtual Behavioral Coaching provides personalized, self-paced support to those who need help managing symptoms of depression, stress and anxiety.
- Talkspace allows you to connect virtually with a licensed therapist through real-time audio/video appointments. For more information, go here.
- The Calm app can help you build coping skills and resiliency to navigate life’s uncertainties. It’s self-paced and features audio and video tools, and you have access 24/7.
