Managing diabetes can be challenging, but your Partners for Health coverage includes many helpful benefits — often at little or no cost to you.

Health Plan Benefits – BCBST & Cigna

Preventive Visits

Medically necessary nutritional guidance is available at no cost when billed as preventive care and provided by an in-network doctor.

Diabetes Education

  • You can get up to six visits per year for diabetes self-management training and nutrition counseling when prescribed by your doctor as medically necessary with a diagnosis of diabetes.
  • More visits may be covered if your condition changes or your doctor recommends a refresher.

Use the CareTN app for free help managing long-term health conditions.

Retinopathy Eye Screening

  • Covered at no cost when done by an in-network optometrist or ophthalmologist, including therapeutic optometry
    • Must be billed with a diabetes diagnosis

Foot Care

  • Routine foot care, like nail trimming or treating corns and calluses, is covered for members with diabetes.
  • Therapeutic shoes and inserts (one pair per year) are covered if you have diabetes and any of these complications:
    • peripheral neuropathy with evidence of callus formation; or  
    • history of preulcerative calluses; or 
    • history of previous ulceration; or 
    • foot deformity; or 
    • previous amputation of the foot or part of the foot; or 
    • poor circulation

Medications and Supplies

90-day Supply Savings

  • Get a 90-day supply of certain diabetes medications for the same cost as a 30-day supply when you use a 90-day network pharmacy or mail order.
  • Consumer-driven health plan members pay a lower cost right away. These medicines skip the deductible.

Preferred Brands

  • Covered blood glucose meters, test strips and supplies are from Accu-Chek and True Metrix.
  • Using these brands means lower copays.

Free Meter Offer

Eye Exams

Diabetic eye disease can start without symptoms. Annual eye exams can catch problems early.

  • Partners for Health vision plans cover one exam each year:
    • Basic Plan: $10 copay
    • Expanded Plan: No cost

 

 

Dental Benefits – Cigna & MetLife

Cigna Dental Oral Health Integration Program®

  • Helps people with certain health conditions, including diabetes, get money back for some dental services.
  • No extra cost to join.
  • If you qualify and pay your copay as usual, Cigna will reimburse you in about 30 days.

MetLife Dental

Members with diabetes may qualify for extra dental care at no extra cost when it’s dentally necessary.

Coverage is subject to your plan’s yearly maximums (see your Schedule of Benefits for details).
