Healthy, Confident and Pain-free

Stephen J. from Labor and Workforce Development
I needed to make some changes because I wanted to be around to spend more time with my grandchildren. It started with my health practitioner. She suggested that I really needed to get healthy again because I was really overweight. I wasn't eating healthy. I had high blood pressure.
I've lost over 100 pounds by eating vegetables, fruits, lots of protein and just taking care of myself. Plus, going out and doing daily walks in the morning is a great way to start my day. I had the problem of being self-conscious at times, wondering what people are going to think when they see me walking down the road, and it took a little bit of fortitude to get over that hump.
The state of Tennessee has a great wealth of information that you can use at your disposal to get yourself better. I have a disease called avascular necrosis of the left femoral head, which means I needed to have a hip replacement. It caused me to not exercise as much because I was in pain every single day.
I learned that I can do anything I put my mind to, and it's really nice to be able to get out and walk around and enjoy the mornings and just be ready for a nice, productive day at work.
