Department-Led Wellness Activities Information
- Coordinating departments may not sponsor or authorize individuals or entities to provide on-site programming or event participation within state-owned/operated facilities without first receiving approval from the Tennessee Department of General Services. Working for a Healthier Tennessee is not authorized to approve departments’ requests to grant individuals or entities access to state-owned/operated facilities for health-related programming or events.
- No person or business entity will be allowed to perform services in connection with Working for a Healthier Tennessee unless it is within the scope of a currently effective contract between Benefits Administration and the person/business entity.
- No State employee may take part in any wellness activity unless the department coordinating the activity has obtained a signed liability waiver from the employee (See F&A Sample Liability Waiver, available by emailing WFHT.TN@tn.gov). The department can exercise discretion to exempt certain activities, such as educational programs, upon approval by its legal office.
- Departments must ensure that all wellness activities are voluntary and not part of an employee’s work-related duties. Complaints about unsafe conditions should be documented and responded to promptly.
- All departments should submit their planned wellness activities, programs and events to their respective legal offices for prior review to ensure compliance with applicable requirements of the Department of General Services, and the sufficiency of the department’s liability waiver.
