We are dedicated to providing the highest level of professional services and support to every customer with an emphasis on responder safety and integrity. Our goal is to protect and serve the state of Tennessee with compassion and efficiency through a respectful and professional working environment.
 

Dispatch Centers

The Tennessee Highway Patrol Dispatch Division is made up of four dispatch centers located across the state of Tennessee. Each center provides support for 20+ counties, 200+ troopers, and collectively processes more than 800,000 calls-for-service every year.

We provide paid training for this position. The training program is a 12-week program. The first 7 weeks take place in our Dispatch Academy in Nashville which provides a classroom setting where you would learn about our policies, procedures, and how to use our equipment. After successfully completing the Dispatch Academy, trainees would participate in on-the-job training alongside a certified training dispatcher for the remaining 5 weeks. During this period, training will be conducted in four phases: CAD, Telephony, Computer Operations, and Radio. 

Education and Experience:  Education equivalent to graduation from a standard high school.

OR

Substitution of Experience for Education:  Qualifying experience in communications equipment operations may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

Necessary Special Qualifications: Applicants for this class must:

  1. Be at least eighteen (18) years of age;
  2. Be a citizen of the United States;
  3. Have a good moral character, as determined by investigation;
  4. Complete a criminal history disclosure form in a manner approved by the appointing authority;
  5. Agree to release all records involving their criminal history to the appointing authority;
  6. Supply a fingerprint sample in a manner prescribed by the TBI for a fingerprint based criminal history records check;
  7. Not have been convicted or pleaded guilty to or entered a plea of nolo contendere to any felony charge or to any violation of federal or state laws or city ordinances relating to force, violence, theft, dishonesty, gambling, liquor, or controlled substances, Tennessee Code Annotated 7-86-205;
  8. Not have been discharged under any other than honorable conditions from any branch of the United States armed forces;
  9. Pass a physical examination administered by a licensed physician that is consistent with the Americans with Disabilities Act and that relates to the essential functions of the position;
  10. Upon appointment, successfully complete a prescribed course of instruction approved by the Tennessee Public Safety Committee.

Applicants for positions in the Department of Safety and Homeland Security must pass a psychological evaluation administered by a licensed mental health professional that is consistent with the Americans with Disabilities Act and that relates to the essential functions of the position.
