Captain Michael Morgan

Captain Michael Morgan began his law enforcement career with the LaVergne Police Department in 1999, first as a dispatcher and later as a patrol officer. In January 2004, he joined the TN Highway Patrol as a second-generation trooper. After completing Trooper School, he was stationed in Robertson County before transferring to Rutherford County in 2005. He later served as a narcotics/patrol K9 handler and as a member of the Nashville District Strike Team. In August 2013, Captain Morgan transferred to the Capitol Protection Unit as an explosive detection K9 handler. His work earned him recognition as the Administrative District Trooper of the Year for 2014. He has since advanced through the ranks and was promoted to Captain in 2023, overseeing the Protective Services Division. Captain Morgan has helped coordinate and manage operations for three Governors’ Inaugurations, as well as countless special events, rallies, and threats to protected dignitaries. Captain Morgan holds a bachelor’s degree in Emergency Services Management from Bethel University and is a graduate of the Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command. He also holds certifications in Active Shooter Response, Active Attack Integrated Response, and Dignitary Protection, and is a member of the National Legislative Services and Security Association and the IACP Capitol Sector. Captain Morgan is a United States Marine Corps veteran.
