Captain Eric Miller

Captain Eric Miller is a senior law enforcement executive with twenty years of service in the Tennessee Highway Patrol. His career is marked by progressive leadership roles, operational expertise, and a continued commitment to strengthening public safety across East Tennessee.

Captain Miller began his THP career in Loudon County, serving as a road trooper from 2007 to 2016. He was promoted to Sergeant in Union County in 2016, where he led troopers and managed county‑level operations. In 2020, he advanced to Lieutenant over Troop A in Knox County, overseeing troopers, sergeants, and daily troop operations. He later served as the Administrative Lieutenant for the Knoxville District, directing business and administrative functions beginning in January 2021.

In May 2025, Captain Miller assumed command of the Knoxville District. In this role, he provides senior executive oversight for all district operations, directs long‑range and mission‑critical strategic planning, and ensures command accountability across multiple supervisory levels. He establishes operational priorities, aligns personnel and resources, and leads districtwide initiatives designed to enhance public‑safety outcomes and maintain organizational readiness.

Captain Miller’s educational background includes a Master of Science in Management, Strategy, and Leadership from Michigan State University; a Bachelor of Science in Emergency Services Management from Bethel University; and an Executive Certificate in Strategic Leadership from Liberty University. He is currently pursuing a Doctorate in Strategic Leadership at Liberty University.

Before joining the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Captain Miller served in the U.S. Army Special Operations Command’s 75th Ranger Regiment, 1st Ranger Battalion, where he developed the discipline, mission focus, and leadership principles that continue to shape his executive approach.
