What We Do

Criminal Investigation Division
The Criminal Investigation Division investigates, gathers evidence, and assists federal, state, and local law enforcement.

Critical Incident Response Team
The Tennessee Highway Patrol’s Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT) is responsible for assisting other members of the Department in the investigation and reconstruction of motor vehicle traffic crashes.

Aviation Unit
The Aviation Operations Unit provides comprehensive air support to the Department of Safety & Homeland Security and to partnering state, federal, and local public safety agencies.

Special Operations Unit
The Special Operations Unit is a highly trained statewide team based in Nashville that supports law enforcement agencies across Tennessee with specialized tactical and emergency response operations. Its members serve as S.W.A.T. operators and certified bomb technicians, handling high-risk incidents including hostage situations, manhunts, bomb threats, explosive disposal, and disaster response.
