Overview:

This course is designed to provide the new public educator with the knowledge and skills needed to successfully take the first steps as a Public Fire educator. For those who practice the multidiscipline profession of fire and life safety education (including uniformed fire service personnel and other professionals), topics include community assessment and the 5 Step Process for Public Fire Education.  This course serves as an entry level to Fire and Life Safety Educator I.

Course Objectives:

Upon completion of the course the participant will have an understanding of and be able to develop basic Public Fire Education materials and deliver Fire & Life Safety messages to their respected communities.

Upon successful completion of this lesson, the student shall be able to:

  • Outline the evolution of fire and life safety education in America.
  • Articulate how fire and life safety education integrates into the overall process of community risk reduction (NFPA® 1035, 2.3.1, 5.2.4)
  • Identify challenges to reducing fire and preventable injury (NFPA® 1035 5.3.1)
  • Explain the process of effective community risk reduction by utilizing the 5 Step Process.
  • Identify why leadership is an essential component of successful community risk reduction.
  • Define the five categories used in each level of NFPA® 1035. (NFPA® 1035, 5.4.1)
