Appointed to the State Board of Education by Governor Lee in February 2022, Mr. Ryan Holt is honored to serve the students, families, and educators of the Fifth Congressional District. A native of Nashville, Mr. Holt earned a B.A. in Economics and Philosophy from Vanderbilt University, an M.A. in Economics from the University of Nebraska, and a J.D. from Vanderbilt University Law School. He was the valedictorian of his law school class and served as the Editor in Chief of the Vanderbilt Law Review.

Before beginning his law practice, Mr. Holt was a law clerk for the Honorable Gilbert S. Merritt on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. Mr. Holt practices business litigation at the law firm Sherrard Roe Voigt & Harbison, where he has been recognized by Best Lawyers in America, Super Lawyers, and Benchmark Litigation. In his law practice, Mr. Holt helps businesses and individuals successfully resolve legal disputes involving contracts and business torts, covenants not to compete and trade secrets, real-estate transactions, shareholder and corporate-governance issues, and antitrust.

After college, Mr. Holt taught sixth-grade math at a public school in New York City. In 2011, he became a founding board member of Intrepid College Prep Charter School, for which he has volunteered for the past 12 years, including six years as board chair. Mr. Holt has also served on the board of the McNeilly Center for Children and as a Big Brother through Big Brothers Big Sisters of Middle Tennessee. Ryan lives in Nashville with his wife and two sons.
