Interstate 65 Widening Near June Lake Boulevard

The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) is proposing to construct improvements on I-65 in Williamson County. The project includes the widening of I-65 from north of the State Route 396 (Saturn Parkway) interchange to the I-840/I-65 interchange from the current two lanes in each direction to three.
There will also be auxiliary lane improvements between June Lake Boulevard and the I-840/I-65 interchange. The Thompson’s Station Road overpass will be replaced to accommodate the widening of I-65 and the potential future widening of Thompson’s Station Road East. Additionally, the existing I-65 bridges over US-431 (Lewisburg Pike) will be replaced to accommodate potential future widening of US-431.
Current Status: This Alternative Delivery project is under development and is currently in the procurement phase.
Construction Start: This project is scheduled in TDOT’s 10-Year Project Plan to begin construction in Fiscal Year 2028.

History and Background
In December 2025, TDOT completed an Operational Improvement Study for this section of I-65, focused on identifying short-term improvements to reduce delays projected for 2030.
With an immediate need for short-term improvements in this area, this project is aimed to reduce delays between the interchanges of Saturn Parkway and I-840. This project has been programmed in TDOT’s current 10-Year Plan, and design evaluations will be underway in Fall 2026. The planned widening project will be considered a future baseline condition in the I-65 Corridor PEL Study and will not preclude future corridor improvements that may be proposed at the conclusion of the study.
