SR 6 (Nashville Pike) Bridges
Sumner County
The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) will soon replace two bridges on State Route 6 in Sumner County: the East Fork Station Camp Creek Bridge and the West Fork Station Camp Creek Bridge.
The proposed structures will be three-span concrete box bridges, replacing the existing five-span concrete bridges. The left shoulder on both bridges will be widened to sixteen feet, and the right shoulder to 13 feet for multimodal accommodation.
The project is anticipated to be let for construction in June 2026, with utility relocation expected to begin in Summer 2026. Construction on both bridges (to include lane closures) is expected to begin in Summer/Fall of 2027, with an estimated completion of Spring/Summer 2029.
Current Status: TDOT is seeking proposals from contractors.

History and Background
Originally constructed in 1955, both bridges have reached the end of their service life and while currently safe to use, no longer meet current TDOT design and safety standards.
The purpose of this project is to improve long-term safety, reliability, and traffic operations along SR 6 by replacing the existing structures with modern, three-span concrete box bridges designed to meet current standards. Additional improvements include wider shoulders for future multimodal accommodations to enhance mobility for motorists, pedestrians, and cyclists while addressing existing operational and load limitations for the traveling public.

The project is divided into the phases below, outlining utility work, traffic shifts, and lane restrictions throughout construction:
Utilities Phase (Estimated: 10 months*)
• Center gore narrowed; no lane closures
Traffic Phase 1 (Estimated: 10 months*)
• Closure of two westbound lanes and the center gore
• Traffic shifted to the south side of SR 6 (one lane EB, one lane WB)
• SR 6 left turns onto Blue Jay Way/Harris Rd & Tulip Poplar Dr/Lakeshore Dr restricted for both directions
• WB SR 6 left turns into the Lowe’s driveway restricted
• Left turns from unsignalized driveways onto SR 6 restricted
Traffic Phase 2 (Estimated: 10 months*)
• Closure of two WB travel lanes and the center gore
• Traffic shifts to the south side of SR 6 (one lane EB, one lane WB)
• SR 6 left turns onto Blue Jay Way/Harris Rd & Tulip Poplar Dr/Lakeshore Dr restricted for both directions
• WB SR 6 left turns into the Lowe’s driveway restricted
• Left turns from unsignalized driveways onto SR 6 restricted
Traffic Phase 3 (Estimated: 2 months*)
• Nighttime closures for final paving and striping
• One lane remains open in each direction

• Closure of the two‑way center turn lane over the bridge
Traffic Phase 1 (Estimated: 10 months*)
• Closure of two westbound travel lanes and the two‑way center turn lane
• Traffic shifted to the south side of SR 6 (one lane WB, one lane EB)
Traffic Phase 2 (Estimated: 10 months*)
• Closure of two eastbound lanes and the two‑way center turn lane
• Traffic shifted to the north side of SR 6 (one lane WB, one lane EB)
Traffic Phase 3 (Estimated: 2 months*)
• Nighttime closures for final paving and striping
• One lane remains open in each direction

A Public Informational Meeting was held on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at Gallatin City Hall, 132 W Main Street, Gallatin, TN, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. The purpose of the meeting was to provide the public with an update on the project.
