State Route 62 Widening
Morgan and Roane Counties
The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) is proposing roadway improvements along State Route 62 from near Petit Lane in Morgan County to near State Route 61 in Roane County. The project includes widening and potential realignment of segments of the existing roadway.
Currently, State Route 62 between Petit Lane and State Route 61 functions as a two-lane rural arterial. The planned improvements will enhance safety and mitigate congestion by increasing capacity and addressing geometric and operational deficiencies.
Estimated construction start: Due to the size of this project, TDOT will divide improvements to State Route 62 into multiple phases. Phase 1, from near Petit Lane to near State Route 116 is identified for funding in TDOT's 10-Year Project Plan, with preliminary engineering scheduled to begin in 2028. Although the remaining phases (located between State Route 116 and State Route 61) are not currently included in the 10-Year Plan, they will remain in the department’s planning process and will be re-evaluated annually.
Estimated completion*: The right-of-way and construction phases are scheduled for fiscal years 2030 and 2032, respectively in TDOT’s 10-Year Project Plan for the segment of State Route 62 from near Petit Lane to near State Route 116 (Phase 1).
Funding Type: A combination of federal and state funds will be utilized for Phase 1 of the planned improvements.
