TRI Completes Road Frontage Improvement Project

The Tri-Cities Regional Airport celebrated the completion of a terminal frontage project in Blountville, Tennessee, on August 25, 2016. The $6.24 million project was designed to improve safety and convenience in front of the airport's terminal building with wider sidewalks, increased size of the drop-off/pick-up lane, and improved pedestrian access to public parking lots, among other changes.

As a result of the three-year project, the well-known statue of Senator Kenneth McKellar, the namesake of McKellar Field, was relocated. The newly restored statue now sits on a new base at the edge of the short-term parking lot.

The road front improvement project was funded in part with $5.7 million in federal and state grants.
