In collaboration with TDOT leadership, the Strategic Planning, Research & Innovation (SPR&I) division plays an important role in shaping TDOT’s strategic direction by aligning business planning, research priorities, and innovation initiatives with identified departmental goals. SPR&I works with other division leaders across the department to establish goals, objectives, key performance indicators, strategic initiatives, and research projects to support the achievement and advancement of departmental priorities.
The Strategic Planning Office collaborates with other divisions across the department to manage the 4-Year Strategic Plan, Annual Customer Focused Government (CFG) Plans, and TDOT performance reporting. Additional office reporting includes Federal Highway Administration’s (FHWA) Transportation Performance Management.
The Research & Innovation Office oversees TDOT’s Research Program, the identification of innovations, and other transportation research initiatives. This team plans, conducts, monitors, reviews, and coordinates the selection and completion of transportation research projects supported by TDOT. This office aims to enhance Tennessee’s transportation system through high-quality research that leads to the adoption of efficient technologies, innovations, and best practices.
