Logan Hess, Assistant Commissioner for Policy and Legislation

Logan Hess serves as the Assistant Commissioner for Policy and Legislation at the Tennessee Department of Agriculture (TDA), where he plays a vital role in shaping the policies that impact Tennessee’s farmers, foresters, and rural communities. In this position, Hess acts as the department’s primary liaison to the Tennessee General Assembly, working with lawmakers, industry leaders, and agricultural organizations to develop and advance legislation that supports the state’s leading industry.

With more than a decade of legislative experience, Hess has a strong foundation in government relations and policy strategy. Before joining TDA, he served as the Director of Legislation for the Tennessee Department of Revenue. Prior to that, he worked in the Governor’s Office as a legislative liaison, focusing on agriculture-related issues and helping coordinate legislative priorities that supported rural development and Tennessee’s agricultural economy. Earlier in his career, he served as a legislative assistant for the Chairman of the Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee in the Tennessee House of Representatives, gaining a front-row seat to the legislative process and a deep understanding of how thoughtful policy can strengthen communities and industries across the state.

Hess earned his bachelor’s degree in political science and history from King University in Bristol, Tennessee. A Knoxville native, he and his family now live in Wilson County. He can often be found watching baseball, playing golf, or spending time outside with his two young children.
