Pests and Pesticides

Controlling pests is an important responsibility. When people hear the term “pest management,” they may think of eliminating roaches, ants, spiders or fleas. However, pest management extends far beyond controlling household nuisances. It plays an important role in protecting public health, food and fiber supplies, infrastructure and forests.

The Tennessee Department of Agriculture helps protect Tennesseans by regulating the sale and use of restricted-use pesticides. The department also licenses pesticide applicators and works to ensure pesticides are applied safely and effectively by trained and certified professionals.
