Ways We Help
The Tennessee Division of Forestry (TDF) offers a range of services and resources to assist private forest landowners in managing their properties effectively. These services encompass technical guidance, financial support, and practical implementation tools aimed at promoting sustainable forest management practices.
Financial Assistance Programs
TDF currently administers two cost-share programs to help landowners offset expenses associated with forest management. These programs are designed to support landowners in implementing forestry practices that yield public benefits like reforestation and pest control.
Practical Forestry Services
TDF offers fee-based vendor services to assist with various forestry practices, including:
- Prescribed Burning
- Firebreak Installation
- Timber Marking
- Tree Planting
While these services are available statewide, TDF does not intend to compete with private industry providing similar services and encourages landowners to consult with private vendors or consulting foresters.
Technical Assistance & Forest Planning
Area Foresters conduct detailed assessments of timber resources, forest health, wildlife habitat, water quality, cultural resources, and other factors. Based on these evaluations, they collaborate with landowners to develop tailored forest management plans that align with the landowner's objectives and forest management best practices. Follow-up support is also available to encourage the implementation of these plans.
Additionally, TDF offers periodic educational workshops online and in person.
Additional Resources
TDF promotes additional resources that offer technical guidance and other resources to forest landowners, including:
- Consulting Forester Directory
- East Tennessee Nursery
These resources provide landowners with the tools and support needed to manage their forested land effectively.
