UT Extension Service

University of Tennessee Extension agents help forest landowners by providing education, resources, and guidance on managing their trees and woodlands wisely and sustainably. They offer workshops, on-site visits, and science-based information to support landowners with forest planning, wildlife habitat improvement, timber management, invasive species control, and other important aspects of forest stewardship.


Landscape Management Plan

The Tennessee Landscape Management Plan is a science-based guide created by the Division of Forestry to help landowners improve the health, value, and sustainability of their forestland. Designed with Tennessee’s diverse ecosystems in mind, the plan connects landowners to expert guidance and potential funding sources.

Protect Tennessee Forests

​The Protect Tennessee Forests website, managed by the Tennessee Department of Agriculture Division of Forestry, offers a wealth of resources for forest landowners in the state. It provides information on forest health, including threats from invasive insects, plants, and pathogens. In addition, landowners can use the "Report A Pest" feature to notify us of local issues.


2020 Forest Action Plan

The 2020 Tennessee Forest Action Plan, developed by the Tennessee Division of Forestry and The Nature Conservancy, outlines major threats to the state’s forests and strategies to address them. It can aid private landowners in aligning their management goals with long-term, large-scale regional priorities and providing access to conservation resources.

TN Wildland Fire

​The TNWildlandFire site, managed by the Tennessee Department of Agriculture Division of Forestry, offers resources to forest landowners and Tennessee residents. It provides information on wildfire prevention, safe debris burning, and prescribed fire practices, plus access to burn permits and wildfire risk assessments. Info on current wildfires, burn bans, and burning restrictions is also available

East Tennessee Nursery

The Tennessee Department of Agriculture's Division of Forestry manages the East Tennessee Nursery, which grows over 3 million seedlings each year to support conservation, reforestation, and urban & community forestry goals.
