Signal Design

The Signal Design Section assists the State Traffic Engineer with developing traffic signal, roadway lighting, and signing and marking plans.

These plans may support stand-alone projects or larger roadway design projects administered by TDOT.

TDOT does not typically own, operate, or maintain traffic signal devices or street lighting installed under Department projects.

These devices may also be located along state highways.

Ownership and responsibility for operation and maintenance revert to the local governing agency involved.

The local governing agency assumes these responsibilities by executing a Right-of-Way agreement or other funding contracts provided by the Department.
