Local Farm and Pick Tennessee Products Kick Off Growing Season

NASHVILLE — Pick Tennessee Products will be at Jones Orchard in Millington, Tenn. for a special media day Tuesday April 4, from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. CDT.

A warm winter launched area strawberries into early growth, but the recent extended spell of cold days and nights kept growers working hard to save the crop. The owners of the host farm, Henry and Jaunita Jones, will provide an update on crops during the media event.  Jones Orchard has more than 600 acres of a variety of crops in production and activities throughout the year.

Tammy Algood, Pick Tennessee Products spokesperson, will demonstrate how to prepare for a successful experience when visiting a farm. Algood will also present a “Strawberry School” with demonstrations on proper strawberry picking, care, storage, use and preservation.

Media can tour the farm and interview farmers, in addition to gathering information and images of the day’s demonstrations.
