NASHVILLE— Pick Tennessee Products is taking the guess-work out of your cooking this Independence Day. “Southern in Season” is available now for iPad, iPhone and Mac iBooks. The digital, downloadable cookbook contains recipes focused on fresh, farm-direct ingredients.

It is offered as part of the Pick Tennessee Products program’s 30th anniversary celebration. Pick Tennessee Products is the Tennessee Department of Agriculture’s service to help consumers identify and choose locally-grown or processed foods, farm-related products and activities.

“Southern in Season” arranges recipes according to the season the ingredients can be found on farms and at farmers markets in Tennessee. Important tips for choosing, storing and using the Tennessee-grown ingredients are also included with each recipe.

Some recipes are also paired with short videos demonstrating an aspect of food preparation or culinary technique. Links to Pick Tennessee website directories will help readers quickly find the featured farm products at farms or farmers markets near their own homes.

Pick Tennessee Products has been ahead of its time since its inception in 1986. With the  free mobile app, you can search for the local foods, farmers markets and on-farm fun near you, then use the app’s GPS mapping to get there. The latest feature of the Pick Tennessee app is a directory of restaurants committed to serving food from local farms. The new iBook reaffirms that commitment to help farmers and consumers find each other by keeping up with the times and technology.
