Foreign Land Ownership Registration

Tennessee Code Annotated, section 66-2-301, et seq. requires certain foreign parties and foreign party controlled businesses that hold an interest in Tennessee agricultural land on or after January 1, 2025, to register their interest in the land with the Tennessee Department of Agriculture. The details of these requirements, including applicable definitions of parties affected, are contained in Public Chapter No. 995.”

Certain entities must also register their interests in non-agricultural land. For questions concerning registration of interests in non-agricultural land, please contact the Tennessee Secretary of State or call (615) 253-8739.

To register an interest in agricultural land, an entity should file the Registration of Interest in Agricultural Land form.
    Filing instructions:

  • Submit a separate registration for each interest in Tennessee agricultural land owned by a prohibited foreign party controlled business.
  • The Registration of Interest in Agricultural Land must be signed by an authorized representative of the foreign party controlled business.
  • Send the completed registration form to: Tennessee Department of Agriculture,
