Overview of the Animal Friendly Grant

Animal Friendly Grant License Plate example
  • Available to government shelters or 501c3’s in Tennessee who provide spay and neuter services to dogs and cats. The grant covers spay and neuter procedures only and does not cover any other type of procedure. The grant does not cover expenses such as fences, food, etc.
  • The Spay/Neuter procedures must be performed by a licensed clinic in Tennessee with a veterinarian who is licensed in Tennessee.
  • Funding is provided through the sales of the Spay/Neuter license plate
  • The process for receiving the grant:
    1. Organizations who are interested in the grant need to send an email to animal.friendlygrants@tn.gov to be added to the email list for information concerning the grant.
    2. All interested parties need to go ahead and set up an account as an Edison Supplier:
    3. Organization fills out the application when it becomes available in the spring each year and sends in the requested supporting documentation.
    4. Once all applications have been received and reviewed, awards are determined based on a variety of factors: price of procedures, number of animals an organization serves, how many counties are served by the organization, organizations who serve distressed counties, how many organizations in an area are receiving funding, etc.
    5. After awards have been determined, a contract will be sent to the organization that must be signed and returned. Once the contract is returned, it goes on through the Department of Agriculture for further approval.
    6. Once the contracts have been returned, they are entered into Edison and an invoice is created and emailed to the organization.
    7. During the fiscal year, as organizations have spay/neuter procedures done, they fill out the invoice with the procedure information and send those into the Animal Friendly email to get reimbursement. Reimbursement usually takes a couple of weeks to process.
