Interstate 40

Fayette County

The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) is proposing to construct improvements to Interstate 40 in Fayette County. The proposed project, which stretches from east of Exit 35 to west of Exit 42, will widen I-40 from the existing four lanes (two in each direction) to six lanes (three in each direction). The capacity improvements will help address the additional traffic projected to arise from additional development at and around the Memphis Regional Megasite, including the BlueOval City complex.

Current Status: This project is under development.

Estimated construction start: This project is scheduled in TDOT’s 10-Year Project Plan to begin construction in Fiscal Year 2026.

Estimated completion*: TBD

Funding Type: TDOT anticipates that a portion of this project will be funded through the Transportation Modernization Fund.
