Region 4 Dove Fields


Current fields as of September 11, 2019.   Please check this page often for changes and additions.

Remember shotgun plugs and Migratory Bird Permit. Hunter Education required for those born on or after January, 1, 1969.

*Note:  Capacity may be limited on some fields depending on hunter turnout.

 

Crops planted:   6 acres sunflowers --chopped, 7 acres wheat, 2 acres buckwheat -- bush hogged

Hunt Dates:    Sep. 1, 2, 7 and the remainder of statewide seasons.  Maximum field capacity is 70 hunters. Field will not be accessible until 9 a.m.

Directions: ​ (Grainger County) From Knoxville take the Rutledge Pike Exit (Hwy. 11W) off Interstate 40 north through Blaine to Joppa. Just past Joppa School, take the first road to the right (Owl Hole Gap Road), go 3.7 miles and turn right on Indian Ridge Road. Then go 0.6 miles and turn left on the gravel road at the Buffalo Springs WMA sign.

From Jefferson City , TN take Hwy 92 toward Rutledge. Go 1.4 miles north past Cherokee Dam and turn left on Owl Hole Gap Rd. Then go 4.9 miles and turn left on Indian Ridge Road . Then go 0.6 miles and turn left on the gravel road at the Buffalo Springs WMA sign.

Crops planted:   7 acres millet, 10 acres wheat

Hunt Dates:   Same as statewide seasons. Opens at noon on September 1.

Directions: Take Hwy. 33N out of Knoxville, cross Norris Lake; go approximately 1 mile and turn left on Sharps Chapel Road; this dead ends into Chuck Swan. Dove fields will be at the end of Forks of the River Rd. (about 14 miles from the gates).

WMA Small Game Permit is required.

Crops planted:  45 acres of millet,  10 acres of buckwheat, 7 acres of wheat - top sown

Hunt Dates:   September 1 (12:00 noon),  7, 8, and every day thereafter during the statewide dove seasons. Capacity may be limited on some fields depending on hunter turnout. Hunting allowed on designated fields only.

Directions: In Knoxville, cross the South Knoxville Bridge and exit right at the first exit. Turn left and continue to the end of road. Turn right on Island Home Ave and continue past Ijams Nature Center. Cross railroad track, and turn at next left on McClure Road. Go to the end of the road.

WMA Small Game Permit is required.

Crops planted:   6 acres of sunflowers

Hunt Dates:   Youth/Adult field is open Sept. 1, 7, 8 to youths who must be accompanied by a licensed adult who may also hunt this field. This field is open to all hunters with the statewide season beginning Sept. 8.  Capacity may be limited on some fields depending on hunter turnout. Hunting allowed on designated fields only.

Directions:   In Knoxville, cross the South Knoxville Bridge and exit right at the first exit. Turn left and continue to the end of road. Turn right on Island Home Ave and continue past Ijams Nature Center. Cross railroad track, and turn at next left on McClure Road. Go to the end of the road.

Crops planted:   25 acres of top-sown wheat, 2 acres of buckwheat bush hogged, 3 acres of millet bush hogged.

Hunt Dates:   Same as statewide season. Opens at noon on September 1.

Directions:   From Morristown, travel 6.1 miles on U.S. 25E north. Take U.S. 11W north and travel 19.8 miles toward Rogersville. Take Hwy. 70 north and travel 16.8 miles to Kyles Ford. Turn right on Horton Ford Road and travel approximately 1 mile to the dove field.

WMA Small Game Permit is required.

Crops planted:    40 acres of wheat-- topsown

Hunt Dates:   Open Sept. 1 at noon, Sept. 2 is youth/adult only from sunrise to noon then open to all hunters. Opens on Sept. 3 with statewide season.  Capacity may be limited on some fields depending on hunter turnout.

Directions: Take McDonald Road and turn south on to South Mohawk Road and go approximately 1.5 miles and the field is on the left.
