Wildland Firefighting: Where Do We Start

 

 

Overview: Wildland Firefighting: Where Do We Start is an introductory course designed to provide firefighters with the foundational knowledge to prepare for response, safely recognize, and assess wildland incidents. The course explores the key differences of wildland firefighting from traditional structural firefighting, emphasizes how the wildland environment requires different tactics, personal protective equipment tools, and training and safety considerations. Students will examine how fuels, weather and topography play a factor in fire spread. Students will focus on learning established safety systems such as LCES, 10 Standard Firefighting Orders and 18 Watch Out Situations. Emphasis will be placed preparing prior to the incident through training, recognizing a wildland incident, conducting a size up, applying safety systems and developing in initial IAP.
