Overview:
This course is designed to be a refresher course for emergency response personnel who may be first on the scene of Highway Transportation Emergencies that involve a hazardous material. First responders are expected to recognize the presence of hazardous materials, protect themselves, secure the area, and call for properly trained personnel to mitigate the incident. First Responders are expected to be able to use the Emergency Response Guidebook to establish proper identification of the product involved by UN number or chemical name, and then determine the proper evacuation distances and initial steps to be taken by first responders.

Course Objectives:
- Student will be able to identify common tankers used in the transportation of hazardous materials.
- Student will be able to identify packing commonly encountered in hazardous materials situations as well as how to identify the product using the DOT Emergency Response Guidebook.
- Student will be able to determine the initial steps to be taken by first responders to assist in mitigating the incident.
