FF304 Making Decisions Using Modern Day Smoke Reading

Making Decisions Using Modern Day Smoke Reading

Overview:

This course teaches firefighters how to read smoke as a predictive tool for fire behavior and tactical decision-making. Using the VVDC method—Volume, Velocity, Density, and Color—students will learn to assess fire conditions, anticipate changes, and recognize warning signs of flashover, backdraft, and other hazards. Grounded in modern fire dynamics, the class introduces a practical three-step process and explores key factors like ventilation, weather, and building size. Designed for firefighters and fire officers, this course builds safer, smarter decisions on the fireground.
