Firefighter Mental Wellness: The Elephant in the Room

Overview: This course is designed in collaboration with the Tennessee Fire Codes and Enforcement Academy and the Tennessee Tech University’s Responder Health Lab. This course is not intended to treat or diagnose any mental health disorder, but rather familiarize students to the history, physiological response, and treatments of stress and trauma related disorders. This course is intended to be used as a hybrid model utilizing in person instructor training as well as asynchronous video content from Dr. Derrick Edwards. Throughout this course, in person instructors are vital to the success of this course by facilitating thoughtful discussion, managing classroom engagement, and navigating classroom exercises.
