Wood Industry Summit to Address Market Challenges and Offer Solutions

NASHVILLE –West Tennessee has experienced a decline in markets for low-grade hardwood products and byproducts during the past few years. Low-grade timber is commonly used as pulpwood for paper and packaging, railroad crossties or pallets for shipping. This decline has had an adverse impact on forest health and the economy in the region.

University of Tennessee Extension, along with the Tennessee Forestry Association and the Tennessee Department of Agriculture will host the West Tennessee Wood Industry Summit to address the issue and suggest solutions on Thursday, May 25 from 8 a.m. until noon CDT at UT’s West Tennessee AgResearch and Education Center in Jackson, Tenn.

The region’s wood industry representatives, master loggers, professional foresters, legislators, interested landowners and the media are invited to attend.
