Middle Tennessee Farm and Pick Tennessee Products Kick Off Growing Season

Tuesday, April 11, 2017 | 12:50pm

Nashville -- Pick Tennessee Products will be at White’s Family Farm for a special media day this Thursday, April 13, from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. CDT.

A warm winter launched area strawberries into early growth, but an extended spell of cold days and nights in March had growers working hard to save the crop. Current crop updates will be available from the host farm family, John and Demetria White, during the media day.

White’s Family Farm offers community supported agriculture (CSA) memberships for shares of their products May through October. The Whites participate in five farmers markets in Middle Tennessee. Strawberries are their first crop of the year, but the farm produces a wide range of farm products throughout Tennessee’s long growing season.

Pick Tennessee Products spokesperson Tammy Algood will demonstrate how to prepare for successful experiences when visiting farms. Algood will also present a “Strawberry School” with demonstrations on proper strawberry picking, care, storage, use and preservation. Participating media can tour the farm and interview farmers, as well as gather information and images of the day’s demonstrations.
