Direct Application Pathways

Replications

Public Chapter 275 of 2025 allows for charter school sponsors who have been operating for at least one full year to apply for replication using the same academic focus of an existing school operated by the sponsor. Replications are only authorized in geographic districts where the sponsor is already operating a school. The sponsor may apply either to the local board of education or directly to the Commission. Direct Applications

Public Chapter 275 of 2025 allows for sponsors to apply directly to the Commission if the Comission has overturned the local board of education's decision to deny an application 3 times in a 3 year period. Currently, there are no districts that fit the criteria for this application type.

Higher Education

Public Chapter 275 of 2025 allows state institutions of higher education to sponsor charter schools. Higher education institutions can apply either with the local board of education or directly to the Commission.
