The Tennessee Public Charter Commission was established in 2019 to oversee new start, revocation, renewal, and amendment charter appeals from across Tennessee. The Charter Commission also serves as the authorizer to any schools that it authorizes upon appeal. Charter school appeal responsibilities transfered from the Tennessee State Board of Education to the Tennessee Public Charter School Commission on January 1, 2021. On July 1, 2021, Tennessee Public Charter School Commission assumed the public charter school authorizing responsibilities from the State Board of Education. The Commission serves as the LEA and authorizer for current authorized schools as well as any others authorized in the future.
