Our Mission:

Our mission is to promote the safe, responsible, and innovative use of drones across Tennessee. The TDOT Aeronautics Division is dedicated to supporting public awareness, improving efficiency, and maintaining compliance with state and federal guidelines. Whether for infrastructure inspections, emergency response, surveying, or other applications, drones have proven to be an invaluable asset. The term “drone” is regularly used by TDOT, but may be used interchangeably with other terminology, including small Uncrewed Aircraft System (sUAS), Uncrewed Aircraft System (UAS), Uncrewed Aerial Vehicle (UAV), aircraft, and airframe.

Our Goals:

Enhance safety of transportation workers and of the traveling public
Maintain compliance with federal and state regulations
Improve efficiency by utilizing innovative drone technologies
Promote Public Awareness & Workforce Development
