Big Game, Small Game, and Trapping are the same as statewide seasons, except as noted.

Deer - Deer seasons follow Unit CWD bag limits including G/M/A hunts.

Turkey --Two weekly hunts (Tue-Wed and Fri-Sun) each week of spring turkey season. All hunts will be quota hunts and will be drawn prior to turkey season. Hunter quota is 26 per hunt. One bearded turkey per hunt, counts toward the statewide bag limit.

Camping - Chickasaw State Park managed campgrounds and cabins. Must contact State Park office.

Site Description:  The WMA offers outstanding hunting opportunities for deer, turkey, and small game. The WMA portion of Chickasaw State Forest is 11,215 acres and is located in Chester and Hardeman Counties just off of Hwy 100.       

Chickasaw State Forest is located in Hardeman and Chester Counties. The Resettlement Administration Program purchased the majority of lands making up the forest in 1938; the lands at the time of acquisition were highly eroded and degraded by farming and timber harvesting.

The entire project area was deeded to the State of Tennessee in 1955 and the Tennessee Department of Agriculture, Forestry Division assumed responsibility for the portion that is now a State Forest.

Approximately 63% of the Forest is in hardwood types, about 29% is in southern yellow pines, and the remainder is in mixed pine and hardwood cover. The Forest is dominated by stands of mature saw timber.  About 35% of the stands are upland hardwoods in excess of 80 years old.

Wildlife to Watch:  Chickasaw State Forest is also a great place for bird watching. Birds that are common to see in the spring and summer are Summer Tanagers, Yellow-Billed Cuckoo, Wood Thrush, Red-Headed Woodpeckers, and Arcadian Flycatchers.
