Troy Haley, former Legislative Liaison of the Bureau, is now the new administrator for the Tennessee Bureau of Workers’ Compensation. Below are some questions that he answered to get a view of his vision for the future of the Bureau.

The Bureau hopes to create a strong network of physicians who are trained in workers' compensation practices to better help injured workers across the state improve their chances of a rapid recovery and effective return to work.

The Tennessee Bureau of Workers’ Compensation is offering a free training for Case Managers on Thursday, September 29, 2022. This training teaches case managers how they can help injured workers best utilize the resources, funds, and expertise of the Next Step Program.

Abbie Hudgens, Administrator of the Tennessee Bureau of Workers' Compensation, retires on August 31, 2022. She was hired by Governor Bill Haslam in 2011 and has spent the past 11 years consistently working to improve the workers’ compensation system in Tennessee for all stakeholders.

Bob Pitts is the recipient of the 2022 Sue Ann Head Award for Excellence in Workers' Compensation. Bob is the Senior Policy Advisor with the Associated Builders and Contractors of Great Tennessee.

The committee hears disputes on medical bill payments between providers and insurers and advises the administrator on issues relating to the medical fee schedule and medical care cost containment in the workers’ compensation system.

“We were named a Top Workplace in Middle Tennessee in each of the three years we participated because we have the ‘top’ people, not only in Middle Tennessee but across the state,” said Abbie Hudgens, BWC Administrator.

Bureau of Workers’ Compensation is requesting interested and qualified attorneys to apply for the position of Workers’ Compensation Judge in Memphis, Tennessee.

This year’s annual report on the impact of that 2013 reform act is a little different. It is shorter; it views the impact through the eyes of stakeholders who deal with it everyday; and it is the end of an era and the beginning of the next.

Effective July 1, 2022, the Tennessee workers’ comp mileage reimbursement rate increased from $0.585 per mile to $.625 per mile.
