The TWRA is continuing in its efforts for enhancing access to fishing at Percy Priest Lake. Reservoir and engineering crews are putting the final touches on an access corridor across the cove at the Stewart Creek Access Area. The work includes removing trees and brush along narrow strips of land allowing for a walkway and the construction of a bridge over the water to connect two points.

The improvements to the Stewart Creek area have been ongoing since 2019. Taking advantage of the low water levels during the winter months allowed TWRA crews to remove several smaller fishing platforms that needed repair and construct five multi-person fishing piers. The 2024 construction of the bridge and walkway will improve access for anglers to both sides of the cove, while also allowing fishing access from the bridge.

“This area was established as a bank fishing opportunity area back in the 1990s and we’ve been able to update and improve on what was started,” said project manager, Ted Alfermann, “Of course the cove has a walkway all the way around it and so we’ve replaced some older construction with larger fishing piers, added fish habitat in the areas around the piers to improve angler success, and now the addition of the bridge makes for better access for everyone to enjoy the sport of fishing.”
