The Department is moving towards leveraging the power of predictive analytics to help identify potential cases of fraud, waste, and abuse in a more efficient and effective manner. Predictive analytics involves the extraction of information from existing sets of data for the purpose of determining patterns and predicting future outcomes and trends. 

Predictive modeling can be configured to identify potential high risk candidates, and as a result helps an agency quickly address these candidates and reduce exposure to fraud, waste, and abuse. Predictive analytics allows DHS to move beyond the traditional practice of basic reporting and analysis and provides the tools that are needed to increase focus on monitoring and predicting. By deploying this technology, the Department will be better equipped to identify and predict the potential outcomes of future cases.
