Strategy & Planning

The Office of Outdoor Recreation's Strategy & Planning team focuses on conservation and recreation planning across Tennessee, including within the TDEC Bureau of Conservation. Guided by the state's vision, strategic project management, and data-driven decision making, we engage stakeholders and develop strategies to address outdoor needs. We accomplish this by providing data and spatial analytics, assessing conservation needs, evaluating demand for outdoor recreation, and identifying opportunities for Tennessee's great outdoors to be more successful.

The Geographic Information Systems Team provides data and GIS support to all Divisions within the Bureau of Conservation. This team provides mapping, GIS solutions development, training, coordination, and data management to assist department property managers, field staff, and divisional leadership with decision-making tools.

The Strategic Grant Funding Program provides comprehensive grant support to all Divisions within the Bureau of Conservation. Through this program, staff receive assistance from a dedicated grant manager who helps with identifying grant opportunities, drafting proposals, developing projects, and reporting progress to funders. When projects are grant-funded, they are collaboratively managed to ensure project success and grant compliance.
