Individualized Advising
Tennessee aims to establish a comprehensive career coach network to provide consistent, high-quality advising to students. By conducting a capacity inventory, exploring vendor support, offering professional development and providing certification opportunities, the state enhances the effectiveness of individualized advising. This structured approach ensures that career coaches and advising professionals are well-equipped with the necessary tools and expertise to support students in making informed decisions about their educational path and future career after high school graduation. As a result, students benefit from improved career readiness and better preparation for transitioning from education to the workforce.
Key areas of opportunity include optimizing resource allocation through a capacity inventory to assess the number and distribution of career coaches and advising professionals across the state. Additionally, focusing on professional development ensures that career coaches and advising professionals are up to date with best practices and are able to deliver consistent, high-quality advisement. Certification opportunities further professionalize the career coaching field by enhancing the credibility, confidence and effectiveness of advising services. These initiatives contribute to a stronger, more effective career coaching network across the state.
The expected outcomes include a well-supported network of career coaches who are equipped with the resources, tools, training and materials to deliver exceptional advising for students that impacts their transitions from high school into postsecondary education or the workforce.
