General Description:

Key Responsibilities:

c)       Provide technical guidance and operational support to program teams and district data administrators to ensure effective implementation of data processes.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

·       Proficiency in programming languages for data analysis and management; experience with Python or R and SQL strongly preferred.

·       Demonstrated experience producing clear, well-organized technical documentation, including annotated code and reproducible workflows.

Position Description:

School Safety Consultants provide support for school safety programs and student well-being as part of an agency-wide comprehensive Coordinated School Health (CSH) approach. CSH is a systematic approach to promoting student health and safety. The department supports this comprehensive approach through multiple teams of regional consultants. These consultant roles will focus on creating strategic district partnerships within their assigned region that focus on building district capacity to lead a comprehensive CSH approach, including continuously evaluating, assessing, and implementing effective safety protocols and plans to ensure a safe and resilient school environment. This role would include collaboration with various state and local agencies and resources in order to support local school districts across the state.

Duties and Responsibilities:  

·       Support districts in assessing their comprehensive approach to CSH and identifying gaps and needs, as well as solutions to ensure all components function to effectively connect student wellbeing and safety with learning.

·       Facilitate regional networking communities of practice related to resilient school communities to enable district personnel to share best practices and problems of practice, learn from one another, and receive ongoing training from state and national experts.

·       Partner with state and local agencies in an effort to increase school safety initiatives and practices within the local school district.

·       Provide district and school personnel, students, families, and community members training, ongoing education, and professional development on safety, wellness, and prevention programs and practices.

·       Evaluate district and school Emergency Operations Plans and other documents submitted to the department and provide quality and essential feedback in an effort to assist in effective school safety measures.

·       Regularly evaluate district safety systems, facilities, and procedures through a monitoring process designed to help districts identify broader vulnerabilities and support schools in planning and improving ongoing safety monitoring and drills, including coordinating, and facilitating safety exercises.

·       Partner with districts to evaluate, develop, and implement safety protocols and exercises,

including refining and improving school safety plans, to identify gaps, monitor potential barriers, and create plans for improvement.

·       Establish and maintain strong community partnerships with local area community organizations, businesses, counselors, law enforcement agencies, etc. to ensure students and families know about and can access comprehensive community support and resources.

·       Collaborate with TDOE program team leads to create resources and materials that support district improvement.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education and Experience: Possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, and a minimum of two years of full-time, Pre K-12 teaching experience or higher education experience related to pre K-12 instruction.

Work Environment:

Position Summary:

The Senior Director of School Safety and Transportation provides support and supervision for school safety and student transportation programs as part of the agency’s Division of Coordinated School Health, which works to improve students’ health and their capacity to learn through the support of families, communities, and schools working together. The position will be responsible for leading the School Safety and Transportation team in assisting districts and schools in maintaining safe and supportive learning environments through training and technical assistance, grants administration, and providing feedback. The position will also lead the work the department provides to districts in student transportation with high-quality training and necessary resources to ensure that all school buses are properly maintained and bus drivers meet requirements. This position will lead all areas of school safety and student transportation, including strategic and operational needs, and will be able to manage multiple tasks while pivoting between multiple responsibilities while working across diverse teams.

Essential Functions:

·       Supervise administration of state grant funding, including team budget and funds that flow through to LEAs and contractors.

·       Serve on the Division of Coordinated School Health Leadership Team, providing a cohesive partnership with senior leaders of the other components of Coordinated School Health.

·       Serve as the lead Emergency Services Coordinator (ESC) for the department with the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency and supervise the alternate ESCs as assigned.

·       Coordinate with the Office of General Counsel and Policy and Legislative Affairs in communicating and advising on laws, policies, and rules as they relate to school safety and student transportation.

·       Oversee corrective action plans in conjunction with district approval process.

·       Establish collaborative partnerships with senior leaders of state agencies with shared school safety and transportation responsibilities.

·       Conduct legislative bill analysis and produce supplemental reports for Tennessee General Assembly.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university in safety, education, or a related field, and at least three to five years of supervisory experience in a safety or educational setting.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Purchases all supplies, equipment, and services for the school by preparing requisitions, purchase orders, and receipts. Screens all requisitions and purchases orders for accuracy and proper justification and approvals.
  • Enters and maintains Agency Term Contracts when required by the Central Procurement Office, writes product specifications for use in bidding competitively with vendors for supplies, equipment, and services. Serves as a liaison between the agency, Central Procurement Office, and vendors for procuring and/or amending contracts.
  • Assists Business Manager to keep policies and procedures updated as required.
