Volunteer Opportunities

The Tennessee Commission on Aging and Disability has a variety of volunteer opportunities across the state and among several different programs.  Choose a program to learn more about volunteer opportunities in your area and complete the Volunteer Interest Form to be connected to your local program.

Aging Nutrition

The Aging Nutrition program provides meals, socialization, and nutrition education and counseling to adults age 60 and over. These services are provided in 200+ congregate settings (such as senior centers or senior housing), as well as to homebound older adults in all 95 Tennessee counties.  Many Volunteer opportunities are available to work with both our congregate meal program and our home delivered meal programs in every county statewide.

Long-Term Care Ombudsman

The LTC Ombudsman program provides free assistance to elderly Tennesseans residing in nursing homes, homes for the aged, assisted care living facilities, and adult care homes. An Ombudsman is available to help residents and their families resolve questions or problems and will advocate for solutions to problems for qualified residents of long-term care facilities.

MyRide Tennessee

MyRide TN is a volunteer based transportation program providing rides to older adults 60 and over to essential appointments.  Those appointments include doctor visits, grocery shopping, pharmacy, bank and beauty shop.  Volunteer utilize their own vehicle to provide door-through-door transportation to those older adults who are still able to walk with minimal assistance from a cane or walker.

Public Guardianship

The Tennessee Public Guardianship for the Elderly program ensures the health and welfare of some of the state’s most vulnerable residents by serving as the court-appointed guardian for individuals age 60 and over who, due to physical or mental limitations, are unable to make personal decisions regarding their health and financial resources.

Senior Centers

Senior centers are a focal point for local communities, providing information, social opportunities and chances to serve.  Senior centers have very small staff and many ways to provide service for seniors in the community.  Come and have fun, lend a hand and make your community better.

State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP)

Tennessee's State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) is a statewide program that provides free and objective counseling and assistance to persons with questions or problems regarding Medicare and other related health insurance.
