SHIP is a national program that provides free and objective one-on-one counseling, information and help to people with Medicare, people who may need Medicare, and people looking into Medicare with someone else in mind.
For more information about SHIP, call 1-877-801-0044. Currently, all of our in-person events (one each for East, Middle, and West Tennessee) and counseling locations are closed due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, however, you can email us at firstname.lastname@example.org . Until we can safely open we will be providing virtual counseling sessions.
TN SHIP may not endorse any insurance company, agency, agent or plan. SHIP's only goal is to help people make informed decisions about Medicare coverage. There are no eligibility requirements for information or outreach. However, a consumer must be eligible for Medicare in order to enroll in any part of Medicare.
Medicare's New "What's Covered" App
Medicare has introduced a new, free mobile app to help you determine Medicare coverage of services and costs.
"The app delivers general cost, coverage and eligibility details for items and services covered by Medicare Part A and Part B. Search or browse to learn what’s covered and not covered; how and when to get covered benefits; and basic cost information. You can also get a list of covered preventive services."
Protect your health with Medicare’s preventive benefits. Sign up at www.MyMedicare.gov to track the preventive benefits you have used each year and remind you of benefits for which you are eligible. Visit www.medicare.gov for valuable benefit information. Here are a few highlights of the website:
Medicare Prescription Drug Plan Finder
An interactive tool that allows you to narrow your search for a Medicare prescription drug plan based on your personal preferences such as cost, drugs covered, and participating pharmacies.
Need help paying for your prescription drugs? You may be able to get extra help to pay for the premiums, annual deductible, and co-payments related to the Medicare Prescription Drug program. However, you must be enrolled in a Medicare Prescription Drug plan to receive this additional help. Call SHIP today to learn more.
Medicare Consumers and the Affordable Healthcare Act
Once you are eligible for Medicare you will need to disenroll from your Marketplace plan through the Affordable Care Act. Typically, your Marketplace plan will not work with Medicare. You will need to enroll in Medicare to avoid any penalties that may be assessed by not enrolling in Medicare timely. TN SHIP is available to help you make decisions with your Medicare health care coverage available in your area by looking at cost, convenience and coverage.
