Directions and Description

Directions: From Hwy 412 in Crockett County Tennessee, go east on Hwy 152 for 5.2 miles until you see signs for Horns Bluff Refuge.  Turn left after the sign on Raleigh Road, then turn left in 150 yards onto Horns Bluff Road.  Follow into the Observation Area where you will find a parking lot and gravel access roads. Lat-Long: 35.85196, -89.09585

The Refuge is open year-round during daylight hours for designated observation areas however, part of the Refuge is closed from November 15th through the last day of February. North unit (a portion of refuge north of Middle Fork Forked Deer River Channel) is open to waterfowl hunting on Saturday and Sunday during duck season occurring from Nov. – Feb. No access during refuge closure dates except for waterfowl hunters on open hunt days.  Please note hunting seasons.  Licensing fees may apply.

Description: The 1,890-acre refuge is located in Crockett and Gibson counties Tennessee, six miles northeast of Almo off Hwy. 54 and is primarily early successional forest, agricultural land, and bottomland forests.  Wild turkeys and deer are common and a wide variety of Waterfowl species can be present during the winter months. Northern Harriers patrol the open areas all winter.

Observation areas are closed from sunset to sunrise.

Open for August Deer Archery Hunt

Closed to Quail and Fall Turkey hunting.

Turkey - One (1) non-quota hunt: April 12 - May 4, 2025. Bag limit is one (1) male bearded turkey. Counts toward the statewide bag limit. Walk-in hunting only.

Turkey (Young Sportsman) - Same as statewide seasons.

Waterfowl - North Unit (a portion of the refuge north of Middle Fork Forked Deer River Channel) open to waterfowl hunting on Saturday and Sunday during duck season occurring from Nov. - Feb.  Goose season to coincide with statewide seasons after the Youth/Military Waterfowl Season on the portion of Horn's Bluff WMA that is North of the main river channel.   Walk-in only.  No blinds, decoys, or materials may be left overnight.  All hunting shall cease at 3 p.m. except on the last day of the season when hunting closes at sunset.  No access before 4 a.m. or after 5 p.m. No access during refuge closure dates except for waterfowl hunters on open hunt days.
