Bogota WMA

8 miles N of Dyersburg, TN, east of highway 78 and south of highway 103, Dyer County, TN

Site Directions: From Dyersburg, travel north on Hwy 78 to Hwy 103. Turn left on Hwy 103 and go 1.2 miles to a left turn onto Barbwire Rd at a sign for Bogota WMA. This road takes you into the main part of Bogota WMA.

Bogota WMA

Big Game, Small Game, and Trapping are the same as statewide seasons, except as noted. Areas within 150 yards of draw waterfowl pools are closed during small game, trapping, and statewide deer gun season(s).

 Quail - Nov. 4, 2023 -  Jan. 15, 2024

Special Dove (youth) - Sept. 3, 2023 noon until sunset. Each youth must be accompanied by a non-hunting adult. Designated fields only.

Dove: Sept. 4, 2023 through the remainder of the first and second segments of the statewide season. Designated fields only.

Waterfowl (Designated Pools Only) - Same as statewide season, except hunting of waterfowl during the duck season occurring in Nov. - Feb. permitted only on Tuesday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and the first and last day of each segment of the duck season occurring in Nov. - Feb. and the youth/military waterfowl seasons. Goose seasons to coincide with statewide season after the youth/military waterfowl seasons, with no pool restrictions or drawings.

All hunting shall cease at 3 p.m. (CST) each day, except the last day of each season and the remaining goose seasons when hunting shall close at sunset.

Designated pools (except Pool 1) will be allocated by computer draw. Hunters are restricted to pools or number stakes as specified by special instructions supplied by TWRA annually. All hunters in a party are required to hunt in the same temporary blind site for which they are drawn. Decoys and temporary blinds may be left out in draw pools over the specified hunt but must be removed upon completion of the hunt on the last day. Pool 1: No waterfowl hunters are permitted in Pool 1 (non-draw pool) and no access is allowed from two hours after legal shooting hours have ended until 4:00 a.m. the following day during the duck season occurring in November, December, and January. No permanent blinds. All decoys, temporary blinds, blind materials, and boats must be removed daily from Pool 1.

Turkey - One non-quota hunt: April 13 - May 5, 2024. One bearded turkey counts towards statewide bag limit.

Turkey (Young Sportsman) - Same as statewide season.

Dog training - Sept. 1 - Oct. 31, 2023.

Site Description: The 2,293-acre WMA contains a mix of habitats including farmland for dove hunting, grassland/old fields, bottomland hardwood forest, extensive hardwood reforestation, moist soil management areas, and other impoundments. Part of the area is under a water level management program for waterfowl. The WMA partially borders the Obion River and low areas are subject to periodic flooding.

Wildlife to Watch: In winter, Northern Harriers are common during the day, while Short-eared Owls can be seen in winter at dusk in brushy fields. Look for harriers congregating after sunset and Short-eared Owls will often start appearing in the field(s) as harriers go to roost on the ground. 

SongSavannahSwampField, and White-crowned Sparrows among others are abundant in the grassy fields and hedgerows from fall through spring.

Eastern Meadowlarks can be abundant in the fields as well, while a Western Meadowlark could occur.

Loggerhead Shrikes and American Kestrels often perch on the powerlines that are along the main road through the WMA.

Waterfowl can be abundant in winter when water is present. Merlin is seen with some regularity in winter.

Many subspecies of Red-tailed Hawk may be present in winter, including Harlan's, Krider's, and western.
