In Person Boater Education
The basic Boater Education Course provides boating safety training and introduces students to their responsibilities in the fields of boater ethics and laws to prevent incidents out on the water.
The main objective of the Boater Education Program is to reduce the potential for boating accidents and ultimately reduce the number of boating injuries. The course is taught according to standards established by the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA).
By meeting these standards, the Tennessee Boater Education program is recognized by all 50 states.
The basic course consists of a classroom course & exam. You will need to buy a boating safety exam permit (Type 600) on gooudoorstennessee.com or anywhere that sells our hunting/fishing licenses to take the exam.
· A minimum of four (4) hours of classroom participation is required. Most classes generally last just 4 hours.
· Students must attend the entire class and successfully pass a written test.
The basic Boater Education course will consist of topics like: terminology, boat types and characteristics, required equipment, trip planning and preparation, safe boat handling, navigation, emergency response, other water activities, and environmental concerns.
You must be twelve years of age or older to become a certified boater education graduate. Parents are encouraged to go through the course with their children. Parents who participate and who pass the test will also receive a boater education certification.
