Transportation Planning Studies

The Strategic Transportation Investments Division and Long Range Planning Division of TDOT are responsible for producing a variety of studies for federal, state, and local highways. These studies provide analysis for potential projects that address safety, congestion, and economic development needs across the state. The studies also help determine the level of commitment to a project (i.e. investment) and prioritization of work by TDOT.

Types of studies conducted by TDOT include Concept Reports, Bridge Replacement Studies, Corridor Studies, Feasibility Studies, Interchange Access Requests, and Technical Studies.

Depending on the type of study, components for each can include historical and technical data, proposed improvements and financial analysis, as well as field reviews and public input, among other information.
